Leading youth work

Leading youth work  Reading this was really good. It opened up my eyes to see what even at a young age young people still have a voice and a right to say things. Letting young people express themselves and show their leader skills will help them in the long run. For example when I volunteer with the Boy Scouts, I would work with the Cub Scouts, I can see that some young people will always take charge. They knew that people would follow them and listen to them. Young people know that being a leader is more then just people following them it means that you are respected, it also means that you need to be able to follow the rules and listen to your peers no matter what.

Quote #1: When it was initially conceived in 2011, the YD Program was often characterized as an alternative pathway for undergraduates unable to complete teacher education programs at the college due to high standardized testing cut off scores. This quote to me is offensive because not all of us that are doing the YD Program tried to get into the teacher education program. Also, some of the people in the YD Program do not want to be teachers they just want to work with the youth.  Quote #2 : While we did and still do welcome students who are exiting traditional preservice teacher programs (as well as other majors) we learned quickly that YD is not merely a retention program. We attract many undergraduates with strong academic records who want to work with youth outside of school structures. I love the YD Program. It is everything that I wanted. I have made a lot of friends that where all in different majors that did not feel like that major fit them prefect until the YD Progr...

Marcus's school and classroom

Visible and invisible rules code of conduct that govern Marcus's school and classroom Marcus's classroom has a rule that if you are having a rough morning you can go to what they call a take a break table. I love this idea because children are still humans. They still have feelings and emotions. This gives the students an opportunity to breath and thing about the day. The space break before going into the principals office is a really good idea. This rule is perfect for Marcus because he has a diffivult time in the classroom. >What are some similarities and differences to youth space that you have noticed In the cassroom that I have been in and the rules, code of condcuts and teaching strategies in Marcus's classroomare similar in certains ways. The first rule that is similar is that the students in my classroom have to raise their hand before answeing a question but first they have to be called on to answer the question. An other rule that is similar to min...
